Artist Statement

"I got a Red Room
It is the red hour when the sun sets in my bedroom
It feels like I’m inside a flower
It feels like I’m inside my eyelids
And I don’t want to be anywhere but here…"

Red Room is the byproduct of the cross-pollination between my love of music and my current art practices. The specific lyrics referenced are from Hiatus Kaiyote’s song entitled Red Room. Those lyrics serve as the inspiration behind this piece.

Depicted, is a lady betwixt 3 red hibiscus flowers in full bloom rendered in graphite. Surrounding the graphite rendering are sheets of vellum paper with printed floral arrangements.
